Live Maryland Jumbo Blue Crabs
Maryland jumbo blue crabs — the standout males of the catch. Heavy, loaded with meat, and the size that makes a real crab feast feel like an event.
What Counts as a Jumbo
A jumbo blue crab runs 6.5 to 7 inches across the shell — bigger than a standard #1 male, smaller than a once-in-a-while colossal. There aren’t that many of them in any given catch, which is why we sell them by the day’s supply.
When you crack into a jumbo, you get full claw meat chunks (no flakes), dense back fin lumps, and a body cavity that actually rewards picking. It’s the size where eating a crab stops being a snack and starts being dinner.
What You’re Getting
- Jumbo grade only — top 10-15% of the day’s male catch
- 6.5+ inch shell width, hand-graded
- Live on arrival or we make it right
- Same-day pickup or next-day local delivery
Limited Daily Supply
We don’t always have jumbos in stock — depends on the day, the season, and what the watermen brought in. Call to check availability before you plan a feast around them.
If you want to reserve a batch for a specific date (birthday, anniversary, big party), call ahead by a few days and we’ll do our best to set aside a jumbo bushel.

- Whether it’s a flexible date or a specific event date
Common Questions
How many jumbos in a bushel? Roughly 3-4 dozen — fewer crabs because they’re bigger.
Why are jumbos more expensive? Limited supply, premium grade. The price varies day to day. Always quote-by-phone.
Are jumbos always males? Yes — the term “jumbo” in Maryland always refers to large males. Big females exist but are sold separately as “blue claws.”
