Colossal Blue Crabs
The biggest blue crabs the Chesapeake puts out — 7-inch-plus monster males. Limited supply, limited season, unforgettable when you can get them.
The Top of the Catch
Colossal blue crabs are the absolute biggest blue claws the Chesapeake Bay produces — 7 inches and up across the shell, sometimes pushing 7.5. These are males that survived multiple molts and put on serious size. They’re rare in any given catch, and we only have them by the season.
When you order colossals, you’re getting the trophies the watermen put aside for special customers.
What You’re Getting
- Trophy-grade males — biggest of the season
- 7-inch+ shell width, often heavier than a pound apiece
- Live on arrival — handled with extra care because of their size
- Insulated cooler with extra gel ice
When They’re Available
Colossals are peak-season only — late summer into early fall. Outside that window, we usually don’t have them. Even in peak, we get them in small daily quantities, so reserving ahead is wise.
If you’re planning a special event (rehearsal dinner, milestone birthday, business event), call us 1-2 weeks ahead and we’ll do our best to set some aside.
How to Order
Phone orders only:
- Tell us roughly how many you’d like — usually dozens, sometimes a single colossal bushel
- Your zip code (we deliver across the Maryland area)
- The date you need them — flexibility helps us source the biggest
Common Questions
How many colossals in a bushel? Maybe 2.5-3 dozen — they’re that big.
Are colossals worth the price? If you’re a serious crab eater and want the experience of picking a 1-pound blue claw, yes. If you’re feeding a casual crowd, you’ll get more value from #1 Live Males or Jumbos.
Do you take deposits? For event reservations more than a week out, sometimes. Ask on the call.
